Visiting Olympia, Small Group, Great Tour Guide

On A Silversea Shore Excursion, we visited Olympia, Birthplace Of The Olympics. Our Silversea guide was Saskia Alting, a native of the Netherlands who has been living in Greece for more than two decades. Indeed, it is the quality of the guides that distinguishes Silversea's shore excursions. Our small group saw the Temple of Hera, destroyed by an earthquake in the early 4th century AD, and never rebuilt — as well as the Temple of Zeus, built between 472 and 456 BC. We even visited the Stadium, where my son and I were invited to run the nearly 700 feet from one end to the other. We ended our visit at the Archaeological Museum of Olympia, where we saw beautiful statues, including the Hermes bearing the infant Dionysus and we learned about the Statue of Zeus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World until its destruction during the 5th century. Thanks to Silversea and our guide Saskia for a wonderful tour of ancient Olympia.
